Katherine completed a 2 year diploma course at Weymouth College in letter carving. She achieved a credit and this skill is applied extensively throughout her career. This includes the carving of letters to commemorate Lord mayors names on stone panels in town halls. For example she has carved Lord Mayors names in marble on Wandsworth town Hall and in Portland stone for Paternoster Row she is also the in house stone mason for Kensington Town Hall where she will be called upon yearly to carve the Lord Mayors names.
Where there is an existing inscription to copy she takes a rubbing of the font to design the new letters for the additional names. Otherwise she will propose a suitable font and design.
